Hi, I’m a Content Specialist.
What is it that I do? Well…
The bumper sticker answer is I Create Content for Individuals and Businesses.
The short answer is I write engaging, valuable content for online dissemination for [mostly] small to midsize businesses who are seeking to grow their customer base by reaching more people online.
The longer answer is that publishing engaging, relevant content online is the best way to spread the word of what your organization has to offer. When you want to connect with more potential customers, marketing strategies can be simplified into a few categories:
- Word of Mouth (WOM) Marketing
- Outbound Marketing (advertising and sales materials)
- Inbound Marketing (getting “found” by someone interested in you)
Content marketing is primarily categorized as an Inbound Marketing strategy. Creating and sharing content online gives you an opportunity to connect with and engage both current and potential clients and, if done correctly, will initiate word-of-mouth marketing (good content gets shared), will open opportunities for advertising (“sign up to receive offers,” “click here to learn more about what we do,” etc.) and will help you to get “found” online (when optimized for search engine results pages).
What I as a “Content Specialist” do is create that content for you, incorporating SEO best practices naturally and effectively in content that your audience will want to read. You own the content I write – you can share it on social media, put it up on your blog, publish it in an industry forum, or all of the above. The (less fun) part of what I do is stay current on what the most effective digital content marketing strategies of right now are and incorporate these tools in the content writing I do for my clients. I stay up to date by following marketing blogs like The Moz Blog and The Search Engine Journal, so you don’t have to!
The best answer is that I am a storyteller. I get the opportunity to sit down in person (ideally) or on a call with my clients, listen to their visions, dreams, and motivations behind what they do and where they see themselves and their business going from here. I then get to work alongside them to turn their ideas into unique, value-adding, engaging content that is consistent with their voice and their brand.
What kind of content? It can take the shape of blog posts, landing pages, press releases, professional bios, social media posts and more. The important thing is that we create content that informs, entertains and enlightens your ideal readers, telling your story and building your brand. This is the part of being a Content Specialist that I like best – and the part I do best.
